At OKRE, we believe that meaningful collaboration is essential to creating a more inclusive and representative creative landscape. We work with a wide range of organisations, partners and stakeholders to support our mission, develop impactful programmes and create opportunities for collaboration across the creative industries, research and education.

This page provides an overview of how OKRE works with other organisations, offering clarity on our approach to partnerships, the principles that guide our work and how we collaborate to deliver programmes and activities. It is intended to support a shared understanding of our ways of working, helping current and prospective partners understand what to expect when working with us.

We value partnerships built on mutual respect, shared purpose and open communication. By bringing together different perspectives, expertise and resources, we aim to develop initiatives that create meaningful opportunities, strengthen connections and contribute to lasting impact.

Whether you are an existing partner or exploring opportunities to work with OKRE, this information is designed to provide a clear starting point for understanding our approach and how we can work together effectively.

Our aim is to make collaboration as transparent, accessible and productive as possible, ensuring that our partnerships are grounded in shared objectives and support the successful delivery of our programmes and activities

OKRE’s Purpose and Independence

  • OKRE exists to expand understanding on social, scientific and health-related issues by connecting research, charities, people with lived experience and the creative industries. OKRE’s full charitable objects can be found here.

  • OKRE retains independent control over its own judgement, programme design, outputs, public positioning and funding relationships.

  • OKRE may provide research, advice, introductions, lived experience engagement, funding support or issue-development input to a production or creative partner. This support must not be presented as OKRE approval, endorsement or validation of the final editorial or creative output.

  • OKRE works with a range of funders, where the work advances OKRE’s charitable objects and OKRE remains independent. Funding does not give a funder control over OKRE’s judgement or decision making, interpretation of research, participant mix, outputs or public positioning.

Expertise and Insight

  • OKRE identifies and engages expertise and insight from a range of sources, including academic and other researchers, people with relevant lived experience and charities, through a proportionate due diligence process that considers credibility, expertise and relevance to the issue being considered.

  • Decisions about who OKRE works with are made independently and are not directed by funders, partners or other stakeholders.

  • Where appropriate, OKRE engages a range of relevant perspectives to support informed understanding of an issue. The selection of contributors is based on the needs of the issue being considered and should not be interpreted as support for any particular viewpoint or outcome.

  • Contributors participate in their own capacity and are responsible for the views they express. Those views do not necessarily reflect the views of OKRE, and OKRE does not endorse or assume responsibility for individual opinions or statements.

Editorial Independence

  • OKRE respects the editorial independence of broadcasters, producers, publishers and other creative or editorial partners.

  • Where OKRE contributes research, briefing, convening support, introductions, funding support, participant access, lived experience input, charity expertise or other assistance to editorial or creative work produced by another organisation, that organisation retains full control and sole responsibility for editorial and creative decisions.

  • OKRE does not require, and will not seek, approval rights, veto rights or other forms of editorial control over content produced by an external editorial partner. OKRE’s role is to support better informed work, not to direct editorial outcomes.

Meaningful Engagement

  • Where OKRE provides funding, development or production support, or advice, we expect partners to engage with that meaningfully and in good faith.

  • This includes giving due consideration to relevant research, lived experience, charity insight, and expert input provided.

  • Partners are not required to adopt OKRE’s advice and retain full editorial and creative independence.

  • Where appropriate, partners will be expected to engage meaningfully in evaluation and learning activities, including sharing reflections and evidence, to help understand how OKRE support was considered or used.

Acknowledgement

  • OKRE’s contribution should be acknowledged transparently, accurately and proportionately where support has been provided. Any public wording about OKRE’s role must be agreed in advance and must not imply that OKRE has approved, certified or endorsed the final content.
